University of California, Davis

I've already decided that I'm going to UC Davis for my Ph.D...there's no way it's not going to happen.

Reasons I NEED to go to UC Davis (There's a few and they're good!)

1. They have a great Psychology department.

I know what you're thinking...did't I say I was going to Graduate School for Women's Studies? Yes, but my first love has always be psychology. I'm a psych research junkie. I love writing proposals, going through the IRB, collecting data, ANALYSIS (oh data analysis), writing reports and finally presenting your findings...

I'm such a nerd.

Anyway, their Psych department is phenom.com

They have FIVE psychology program: Developmental; Quantitative; Psychobiology; Perception, Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience and then...Social Psychology

Ahh the joys of Social Psychology...if you don't know, you might want to learn....just sayin'

Just listen to this from their website: "The program provides intensive training in research methods, statistical analysis, and a wide array of theoretical perspectives focusing on several major issues in social and personality psychology. Members of the program study the affective, cognitive, socio-cultural, biological, and developmental underpinnings of human behavior, using a variety of methodological strategies. These methods range from archival and field-observational methods to computerized reaction-time tasks and neuroscientific techniques. Despite its intellectual intensity, the atmosphere of learning is friendly and stimulating and people at all levels are accessible."

Does that or does that not sound amazing?! Don't answer that.

Now to break up my swooning over the university with some pretty pictures of the university...in my normal style...

OK, back to the psych dept. So, there is a professor/research there that I would give my right arm to work with (and yes I'm a righty)!

Dr. Gregory Herek. His research is on Stigma and prejudice; lesbian/gay and sexual minority issues; AIDS stigma; antigay violence. In fact he is an internationally recognized authority on internalized homphobia, which I happen to just finish a paper on that I presented at a conference in Bloomsburg, PA. Basically I've read dozens of his articles and want to study under him so badly.

2. Now for the Women's Studies aspect. UC Davis doesn't offer a graduate "program" in Women's Studies, they do however offer what they call a Designated Emphasis in Feminist Theory and Research *jaw drops*

I don't even know what to say about this emphasis...it's just so wonderful and perfect and everything that I want.
